The recap
A continent recap has to hold more than the harbour.
This recap stays in Australia on purpose: harbour, limestone coast, red centre, reef. One globe so the relatives in London stop asking which island you meant.
The job is the mate who thinks Australia is the Opera House and a zoo. The map has to say Melbourne, then the Great Ocean Road, then Uluru, then Cairns — without a pin that drops “the reef” in Western Australia.

Fly the long legs. Drive the limestone. Land on the reef.
This is how a lot of Australians actually show the country to visitors — and how they recap a trip they finally took themselves. You do not drive Sydney to Cairns in a week unless that is the story. You fly the gaps. You keep the Great Ocean Road because that is the plot, not a transfer.

Uluru or Ayers Rock? What about Cairns?
Uluru is preferred. Ayers Rock still works. Use Cairns for the Queensland pin. Prefer Great Ocean Road or Twelve Apostles on the Victorian coast.
Flights or driving across Australia?
Both. Fly the long legs. Drive the Great Ocean Road and Uluru to Alice. Do not mark Sydney to Cairns as a drive unless you actually did it.
